Following the stellar success in Madrid, Sydney and Korea and acclaimed ongoing seasons in New Yok, Squid Game: The Experience is now in London with all the thrilling challenges we know from the series.
What to Expect
Photo: Urban Adventurer
You will stand face-to-face with the Pink Soldiers and test your skills across 5 interactive games to challenge your memory, luck and nerve.
Squid Game: The Experience is directly inspired by the award-winning Netflix series, so the first thing you will be doing is take a photo of yourself (Smile!).
Next, you’ll be divided into groups, blue or red.
Now, after some safety instructions, the real fun starts!
There are 5 thrilling games to participate in.
Red Light, Green Light
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Find yourself face-to-face with Young-Hee, the merciless giant doll while you’re playing your childhood favourite game, Red Light, Green Light.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Make it to the other side before the time finishes. If you don’t? Well, unlike the series, you won’t meet your faith by a Pink Soldier, but your high-tech wristband will track all your data and gives you ranking (Red: lower score, Orange: intermediate position, Green: those who nailed the game).
Memory Steps
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Next, you’ll find yourself standing in front of the spine-chilling glass bridge. In this game, however, you don’t have to worry about falling to the concrete ground if your guessing is wrong.
Before entering the game, you’ll have a couple of seconds to memorise which tile is safe to stand on. Then, during the game you have to recall it from your memory.
Thug a War
Photo: Urban Adventurer
This is to only one game you have to play in groups. You will be battling with another group and each player has 5 seconds to pull the rope as fast as they can to move the red flag as far as they can.
Marbles
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Just like in Squid Game, you have to throw your marbles as close as you can to the target ball and knock your opponent’s boules away. Sounds easy? Well, not exactly.
Round and Round
Photo: Urban Adventurer
This is the reimaged version of the original game. Instead of forming groups and finding an empty room, you have to land on the correct shape before the signal ends.
Korean-Inspired Night Market
Photo: Urban Adventurer
If you have luckily survived all games (you will!), you have a chance to visit the Korean-inspired Night Market where you can get snacks and Soju-based cocktails to celebrate your victory and recall your choices during the games.
Photo Opportunities
Photo: Urban Adventurer
There are lots of photo opportunities. You can take selfie with Young-Hee, the Red Light, Green Light Doll, an oversized sculpture of the Frontman mask, the black coffins with pink bows, Pink Soldiers, the piggy bank and more.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
You even have time to go around the sleeping area that looks just like in the series (only that not that big) and take photos on the beds.

Photo: Urban Adventurer
If you don’t want to leave without a souvenir or two, visit the shop for exclusive Squid Game merch.

Japan House London launched its new exhibition, ‘Pictograms: Iconic Japanese Designs’ on the 30th July 2025. The exhibition delves deep into how pictograms have removed language barriers around the globe by creating a unique visual language everyone can easily understand.

We went to the press preview of the exhibition where we had the opportunity to meet Art Director and Graphic Designer at Nippon Design Centre, Daikoku Daigo who gave us a deeper insight into how Japan has played an important role in development of this word-free global language and we learnt the step-by-step creation of pictograms.

Whether we realise or not, we are guided by pictograms several times a day. Just think about the weather map on your phone, the pictograms on a parcel or even your beer can at the pub.
‘Pictograms: Iconic Japanese Designs’ exhibition has been created in co-operation with Nippon Design Centre (NDC), a global design agency known for creating the first full set of sporting pictograms for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. The pictograms later became the international standard for sporting events.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Did you know that the designing process started 5 years earlier in 1959?
Whilst at the exhibition, make sure you watch the interview with Nagai Kazumasa, graphic designer and advisor at the Nippon Design Centre, who will give you a glimpse into the creation of the famous pictogram collection and the challenges the artists faced during the designing process.
Throughout the decades, Nippon Design Centre has been involved in global projects and today has offices in Japan, Europe and North America.
From Cave Paintings to Emoji
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The exhibition delves deep into the history of visual communication, starting from 15,000 years old cave paintings made by early humans, to Egyptian hieroglyphs, to the Lascaux murals in France to today’s digital pictograms, the emoji.
As we can see, visual communication goes back to the earliest times of human history and is present till this day.
Pictograms are used everywhere from travel to tourist hot spots and maps to street signs to products labels and toilets. Pictograms – in fact – have become a critical role in global tourism and many other areas, making our everyday lives easier.
How travel signs would look like without pictograms
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Now, stop for a second and imagine a life without pictograms. Imagine how our lives would be without those simple little symbols. Without pictograms, we would have to read long texts displayed on boards at airports and stations and may even miss our trains because of that.
Japan’s Pioneering Role in Pictograms
3D Sumo pictogram
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Pictograms are created to inform and reassure in an easy-to-understand way regardless the language we speak or the country we are in and Japan’s pioneering role in the development of pictograms is undeniable.
Daikoku Daigo, Art Director and Graphic Designer at Nippon Design Centre (left) and Simon Wright Director of Programming, Japan House London (right)
Photo: Urban Adventurer
“When you see pictograms, you naturally understand where to go or how to use something, creating a sense of both security and freedom of movement. They are a ‘friendly point of contact’ between space and society.” – Daikoku Daigo, Art Director and Graphic Designer at Nippon Design Centre explains.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games was the first ever Olympic Games held in Asia. Visitors and athletes were expected from all over the world, and they needed to be able to navigate in a country whose language they didn’t speak.
That’s why multiple sets of pictograms were designed, helping visitors and athletes to find their way around Tokyo, and to be able to identify the different sports on the programme.
Nippon Design Centre have set up the standards for sporting pictograms that later were used all over the world.
Did you know that the word ‘emoji’ we use for digital pictograms also comes from Japan?
Letter ‘e’ means ‘picture’ and ‘moji’ means ‘character’. Emoji has been used to describe digital picograms from the 1990s.
Understanding the Essence of the Subject
Mind map for an apple
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Believe it or not, creating pictograms is a very complex process.
The artist needs to understand the core essence of the subject they want to work with. – explains Daikoku.
Let’s take an apple, for example. As the first step, the artist creates a mind map to visualise all the things an apple is connected with. They include colours and shapes, but also biblical meaning, like the forbidden apple in the Garden of Eden.
The artist has to keep in mind what essential information the pictogram needs to carry. The artist also needs to consider the size of the pictogram: will the pictogram be used in small scale or bigger scale? If the pictogram will be used in small scale, the designer eliminates all unnecessary details and elements to create a clear, easy-to-understand design that delivers harmony.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
If the pictogram represents a person and captures movement, such as walking or swimming, the movement will be broken down to frames (similarly to motion picture) and the artist needs to identify that one particular move that captures the essence of the action.
Create Your Own Pictogram | Be a Pictogram
Photo: Urban Adventurer
‘Pictograms: Iconic Japanese Designs’ has two fun interactive sections allowing visitors to create their own pictogram or even be part of one themselves.
You can create your own pictogram using a selection of elements and components provided. Select any elements you like, choose a theme and create your very own pictogram representing anything you like on the lit up table.
Create your own pictogram – interactive table
Photo: Urban Adventurer
You can even be part of a giant 2.5 metre tall pictogram by standing under a Torii gate sizing up to a sumo wrestler or taking control of a Japanese train.
London as a Pictogram
Photo: Urban Adventurer
As part of the exhibition, Japan House London ran a design competition among primary and secondary school pupils in collaboration with The Japan Society.
‘My Design’ program invited pupils to design their own pictogram representing a specific aspect of London important to them. The winning designs are featured as part of the exhibition.

From Sketch to the Final Cut – Costume Design and Production Design of Game of Thrones
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Now you have visited all the iconic sets of Game of Thrones, looked into the eyes of the Night King and sat on the Iron Throne.
Your journey, however, is yet to be over!
The second part of the studio tour is all about bringing the magic to life.
Maquette of the Hall of Faces
Photo: Urban Adventurer
You can see never-before-seen early sketches, maquettes, and designs. Every set, prop, sigil, wall flag and furniture you see in the series had to be designed, prototyped and created by the talented team of artists and designers of Game of Thrones.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
All intricate details of the costumes were meticulously designed by artists led by award-winning costume designer Michele Clapton. Think of the militaristic style of Cersei’s coronation gown, or Daenerys Targaryen’s dramatic white fur coat.
Follow the development of designs from the earliest sketches to the final cut.
Special & Visual Effects
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The magic of Game of Thrones could have never happened without the Special Effect and Visual Effect team.
Deanerys’ dragons: Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion and other breath-taking scenes, such as the Wall were created with cutting edge technology. Many of those scenes were filmed in front of a green screen before the special effect and visual effect team brought them to life.
It means, the actors and actresses had to rely on their imagination. All they had were a few reference marks on the walls and the ground to help them navigate as they were acting.
Prosthetics & Makeup
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The prosthetic and makeup department spent tremendous amount of time to create other-worldly masks based of the actors’ faces.
First, they had to make a silicon mould of the actors’ faces, then they started building the incredibly lifelike masks and prosthetics to transform the actors into mythical creatures.
Watch the painstakingly long and intricate process of creating masks. Many of the actors and actresses had to sit on the makeup chair for long hours waiting for their masks and makeup to be applied and get ready for filming.
Props & Weapons
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The Studio Tour’s Armory Department features thousands of custom-made props and weapons, including the Catspaw Dagger Arya killed the Night King with, The Oathkeeper and Joffery’s crossbow.
The Scorpio

There are lots of fun activities and photo ops during your journey.

You can even scan your face and display it on one of the huge columns in the Hall of Faces.

Each display represents a different house or legacy, including the White Walkers, Starks, Targaryens, Lannisters, Baratheons and the Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones Filming Locations in Northern Island
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Follow the footsteps of the Game of Thrones’ cast and visit the very places they filmed iconic scenes outside the studio.
Belfast is just a short drive from many of the filming locations, including the cave where Melisandre gave birth to her ‘shadow baby’ who later assassinated Renly Baratheon, the edge of the Antrim plateau where Deanerys was rescued by her dragon or the real life Winterfell.
While you’re on your journey visiting Game of Thrones filming locations around Northern Ireland, make sure you make sure you visit these ten pubs to explore ten stunning carved GOT-themed wooden doors.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Ask for your ‘Journey of Doors’ passport and get a stamp at each location.
Each door is intricately carved in wood and tells a story of an episode from GOT Season 6.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
For example, Door 1 portrays the show’s opening title and the map of Westeros, while Door 10 – which is in Belfast at The Dark Horse Pub – depicts Westeros’ state of affairs as Season 6 comes to its end. You’ll find Stark and Targaryen sigils at bottom of the door and Lannister’s lion in the middle right under the Great Sept of Baelor, signifying the death of hundreds of King’s Landing nobles.
Don’t forget to get your ‘Journey of Doors’ passport stamped at each pub, so you have a unique souvenir of your journey.

A special Nirvana exhibition opened at Royal College of Music Museum on the 3rd June.
The exhibition is featuring Cobain’s iconic Martin D-18E guitar which was uniquely modified for his left-handed playing technique. This was the guitar he used during the Nirvana’s legendary MTV Unplugged performance and – according to his former partner and vocalist, Courtney Love – the final guitar Cobain played before his death 5 months later.
The exhibition is also featuring Kurt’s olive-green mohair cardigan he worn during his MTV Unplugged performance which is another iconic piece of rock history.
This is the very first time the two legendary items are displayed together, and the guitar has ever been displayed in Europe.
The World’s Most Expensive Guitar
Kurt Cobain’s Martin D-18E guitar
Photo: Urban Adventurer
You might not know this, but Kurt Cobain’s Martin D-18E guitar is the most expensive guitar ever sold in an auction.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The guitar was bought by an Australian entrepreneur, Peter Freedman AM for $6 million in 2020. Freedman’s intention when purchasing the guitar was to begin a worldwide tour of exhibitions to support performing artists.
‘Feel the Darkness’ duct-taped by Cobain on the case
Photo: Urban Adventurer
He loaned the instrument to Royal College of Music Museum, London to be part of the first rock exhibition the museum has ever hosted.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Music journalist and curator of the ‘Kurt Cobain Unplugged’ exhibition, Alan di Perna says: “It’s a very rare instrument and an unsuccessful model.” He explains why: “The whole world was going crazy for electric guitars in 1959, and this was Martin’s attempt at making an acoustic guitar electric, and it didn’t really work.”
Only 301 guitars were ever made and – as di Perna says – it was an outcast, just like Cobain in a way that it was modified for Kurt’s left-handed playing technique and as the guitar was a rare and special model.
The Iconic Green Cardigan
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Kurt Cobain’s iconic olive-green cardigan is on display together with his guitar for the first time at Royal College of Music Museum.
Cobain was wearing the cardigan during the MTV Unplugged gig in 1993 and was sold at an auction for $334,000 in 2019.
Not many people know that Kurt took control of the visual aspects of the MTV Unplugged production. He wanted lots of flowers and candles, and when the producer of the show asked him if he wanted the show to look like a funeral, Cobain relied ‘yes’. – Alan di Perna explains.
Nirvana Memorabilia and Collectable Vinyl
Photo: Urban Adventurer
‘Kurt Cobain Unplugged’ exhibition is also featuring rare Nirvana memorabilia, including gig posters from the 1990s and collectable vinyl.

There are also hand-written lyrics on display.
These items give an insight into Cobain’s songwriting and explore how Nirvana changed the course of rock history in the 1990s.
