The venue is just a few minutes walk for Hoxton station, and the storyline starts right as you step into Avora’s London venue, ‘Roscorp Laboratories’.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
After leaving our jackets and bags in a locker, we are guided to the ‘lab’ downstairs to receive our special Avora spacesuits. There are only a limited number of people in a session to make the experience as immersive and enjoyable as possible.
In the lab, we meet the actors: a scientist, a crazy Roscorp army soldier and Jeff, the CEO of Roscorp Laboratories (he welcomes us on the screen).
Photo: Urban Adventurer
After donning our Avora jumpsuit, we receive our first cocktail.
The elixirs come in lab test tubes, and we mix the two ingredients for ourselves. According to the storyline, the elixirs contain a very special ingredient, called ‘luminol’ discovered on Avora. ‘Luminol’ helps us humans to acclimatise before we step through the gateway to the mysterious planet.
As we mix the two elixirs, they create mist and bubbles to make it super TikTokable.
Now, time to enter the mysterious gateway and meet the Avorians…
A New World – Avora
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The gateway teleports us straight to Avora. It’s daytime and we find ourselves in a beautiful mystical woodland with exotic and unique flora.
An Avorian escorts us through the woodland and shows us a lovely ritual they always do on Avora to express friendship.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
Here we have plenty of time to sip our next cocktail, make new friends and interact with Avorians and even teach them something from planet Earth.
As day turns to night, the lush magical world lights up in the dark, transforming the landscape into an enchanting bioluminescent forest.
After taking photos and videos, it’s time for our last destination…
An Other-Worldly Experience
Photo: Urban Adventurer
An Avorian guides us to the final destination of our experience. While crossing a bridge, they show us a trick on how to interact with the Avorian environment and what we see is truly magical.
Arriving to the final room, we see bioluminescent trees cascading from the above in blue and purple light, while illuminating rocks surround us all over.
We are guided to a mystical cave where we receive our last cocktail that contains a special ingredient to make it luminous. But beware! That ingredient has a secret! And Avora’s future will depends on that secret…
Now, Avorians need your help to protect their planet. Are you ready to save Avora from human destruction?

The Joke Shop Selfridges opened on the 7th March and will be there to bring smile on their customers’ face until 30th March 2024.
The Joke Shop is inspired by Dinsdales, that is believed to be one of England’s oldest joke shops. Dinsdales opened in Hepworth’s arcade in Hull in the 1930s and originally it was a record shop. Following the invention and the growing popularity of radio, the shop owners realised records were no longer selling, so they switched to jokes and tricks instead.
They Thought It was a Joke
Photo: Urban Adventurer
After coming across a BBC article about Dinsdales, a joke shop operating for over 90 years, Selfridges was so impressed that they called the shop to request a visit. Manager Graham Williams initially thought he was pranked.
Selfridges then recreated the façade of Dinsdales joke shop with eye-catchy displays packed with trickster objects, such as itching powder, whoopie cushions and rubber chickens.
“From slapstick to lipstick, good gags and even better bags, practical jokes and impractical fashions, Selfridges explores the surreal, the silly, the odd and the absurd this season.” – Selfridges Oxford Street starts their article on their website.

‘The Cult of Beauty’ exhibition is divided into three sections: The Ideals of Beauty, The Industry Beauty, and Subverting Beauty.
The exhibition is exploring how the ideas about beauty were influenced morality, status, health, age, gender, and race by featuring over 200 historical artefacts, contemporary artworks, films, and other items.

Can you find the lipstick kiss from Kate Moss?
The Ideals of Beauty
Esquiline Venus and Idolino
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The Ideals of Beauty starts with an original bust of Nefertiti from around 1340 BC and continues with other historical artefacts, such as the two sculptures of Esquiline Venus and Idolino from the 500 BCE that represented the ideal male and female bodies at that time, as well as Ripley’s Scroll, produced by an unknown artist, named after British alchemist, George Ripley.
Ripley’s Scroll is a 17th century reproduction of the original scroll from the 15th century. The scroll presents alchemy as a secret science worthy of the king’s support. It showcases allegorical verse and imagery as well as alchemy improving upon nature and the process of elixir making.
A 24K Gold Serum is also on display. Drinkable gold was supposed to help the drinker to preserve their beauty and youth.
Male and female corsets and beauty patches a well as cosmetics kits are also on display from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The Industry Beauty
Photo: Urban Adventurer
We might think that mass beauty products, such as lipstick and mascara are the products of modern technology. The usage of these cosmetics, however, are dating back to the ancient Egypt and even earlier.
The Industry Beauty section is showcasing a selection of antique make up tools and sets, including an Egyptian device for producing kohl as well as a burnished bronze mirror from 100 BC and some amazing make up kits from the 18th century.
In the modern age, commercial products have had a huge influence on our relationship with our own bodies as well as how we see each other.
Today as modern make up products, cosmetic appliances, and plastic surgery have become available to the wider public, we need to be more cautious because some of these products and services have life-changing effects.
Subverting Beauty
Photo: Urban Adventurer
In the last section of the exhibition, visitors are invited to immerse and connect by short films, a multi-screen installation, and an interactive sculpture, called ‘Beauty Sensorium’ that visitors can smell and touch.
‘Beauty Sensorium’ is built by scientists and a historian of Renaissance Italy to investigate 16th century skin and hair recipes.
Make sure you grab a leaflet when entering this room to learn more about the products the installation is showcasing.
