If you’d like to experience what it really feels like eating at a Korean friend’s home, Woo Jung is the place to go.

Woo Jung is hidden inside a Korean and Japanese supermarket, called Centre Point. It’s a very intimate restaurant with just a few tables. They’re serving traditional Korean dishes, such as kimchi stew, spicy pork, classic seafood pancake, noodle dishes, Korean soups and more.

The place has a warm, homely atmosphere you’ll instantly fell in love with. No wonder why this place is so popular among Korean artists while they’re in London. They feel like home.

Korean celebrities visited the restaurant includes Jennie from BLACKPINK, Sunwoo from The Boyz, and South Korean footballer, Yang Min-hyeok among others.

Jennie visited Woo Jung on the 2^nd July 2023 after the BLACPINK concert at BST Hyde Park.

Jennie and her company enjoyed a number of delicious dishes, including Kimchi Jjigae, Seafood Kalguksu and Beef Hot Pot.

If you’d like to eat your way through all the dishes Jennie ordered, the restaurant created a special ‘Jennie’s Pick’ menu that features everything she ordered with photos of the dishes.

Once you’ve ordered your dishes, framed photos of the BLACKPINK and Jennie’s signature provide the perfect backdrop for your Insta snaps.

We ordered the Soondubu Jjigae which is a spicy soup with tofu and seafood, served with rice. It was rich in flavour, and we absolutely loved it. It wasn’t too spicy, so even if you’re not a huge fan of spicy food, you can eat this without any problem.

Our second order was a simple one. We ordered the vegetable Gun Mandu which is basically stir fried dumplings (you can choose from chicken, beef and veggie). It was crispy and delicious. Highly recommend this one if you’re not familiar with Korean food and want to go for a safer option.

Make sure you check back to Woo Jung after the BLACKPINK concert in August. Who knows, you might be lucky enough to meet Jennie or other members of the girl group.

I think, we can confidently say that Little Nan’s Bar is one of London’s quirkiest bars.

The bar was set up in honour of the founder’s – Tristan Scutt, referring himself as Grandson Tristan – beloved late grandmother (hence the name) who passed away at the age of 103 (!).

The bar is filled with her eclectic furniture and ornaments, turning the place into a cosy kitsch living room.

Think of leopard print, cuddly oversized soft toys, neon signs and the most eclectic memorabilia collection form the glorious 80s and 90s.

To make sure you fully soak into the Little Nan’s experience, they offer prop boxes full of free-to-wear wigs, hats, funny masks and glasses.

Little Nan’s Bar has the craziest menu ever! It contains over 100 (!) cocktails and hand-written by Grandson Tristan.

To add the quirkiness, many of the cocktails are named after loyal regular customers, Nan’s favourite celebrities, and soap stars, including Queen Pat Butcher (actress Pam St Clement who played Pat Butcher in EastEnders has actually visited the bar).

The Oscar Winning Designer Behind Aunties Ballroom

Little Nan’s Bar 2.0 recently opened their private hire room, called Aunties Ballroom. The Ballroom is located right next to the bar and can accommodate up to 90 guests or up to 75 seated guests for shows or gigs.

And here’s the twist you will not believe: Aunties Ballroom has been designed by an Oscar winning artist!

That’s right! Grandson Matt designed and made all the fabric you can see inside Aunties Ballroom, along with the light up signs, the disco anchor and the Giant Nan’s face curtain at the entrance of the bar.

Matt’s team have won the Oscar for the Best Set Design & Best Production Design for the Wicked film in 2025!

Matt regularly works for the biggest films and series, including Bridgerton, Thor: The Dark World, Downtown Abbey, The Batman, Mission Impossible, Cinderella and the list goes on.

Located under the railway arches just a few minutes walk from Deptford station, Little Nan’s Bar 2.0 is the sister bar of Little Nan’s which is right next to the station.

Little Nan’s Bar is a multi award winning (scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to see all the awards they have received over the years) bar, first launched in 2013, however, forced to close the following year.

The next three years they travelled across London doing pop-ups which were huge success before finally returning to Deptford and settling in a vacant arch in Deptford Market Yard.

In 2024, they almost closed again (due to some landlord drama), so they launched Little Nan’s Bar 2.0, just 5-minutes walk from the original bar. Soon, however, the landlord asked them to stay, so here they are with two venues just a few minutes walking distance between one another.

In 2024, they also opened their new whimsical Air BnB holiday home in Weymouth: Little Nan’s Weymouth Holiday Home which was a roaring success. Little Nan’s Weymouth Holiday Home was featured in The Sunday Times as the “UK’s Most OTT Air BnB” as well as in numerous other magazines, and Tristan, the founder, even gave interview to BBC Radio.

What is a Pan-Asian restaurant?

While an Asian restaurant is focusing on the cuisine of a certain country or style, Pan-Asian restaurants are a fusion of all the Asian countries. The dishes are crafted and served using different methods, styles and ingredients from the most different locations with the aim to create innovative dishes and inventive flavour combinations never existed before while harmonising the flavours and respecting their origins.

A Sparky Hidden Gem

London Night Café opened its doors in September 2023. Just a 6-minute walk from Aldgate Station, the café is a quirky “neodecadent” space with “indoor beach”, dimly lit cosy, quiet corners, a ball pit, retro video games, and unlimited tea, coffee and biscuits.

The café is a small independent place, and the result of a series of past projects and prototypes created by an architecture student: a jungle room, alleyways as decadent dinner party scenes, and a neon cyberpunk trailer.

London Night Café has two floors offering futuristic décor, cosy corners for late night workers or readers, and plenty of comfortable seatings for small friend groups to chat and exchange thoughts.

The ground floor has a large sofa, an “indoor beach” with its very own heater in Winter, a desk with free-to-read books and oversized super comfortable armchairs to sink in with a cup of tea or coffee and relax or play Super Mario.

The space looks like a friend’s chaotic but comfy living room where you can feel home and stay as long as you like.

The toilet is just as peculiar as the guest area. It has its ‘Rave mode’ button to level up your lavatory experience. If you push the button, it will play techno music and turn into a mini disco with thunders and lightings coming from the artificial cloud floating above your head.

A curvy neon-lit stairs leads downstairs where a huge plush sofa with lots of cushions – so big that 15 people can lay down comfortably – greets visitors, along with a mini ball pit and more video games to play under the dim lights.

London Night Café is designed to be a cosy, friendly place which is stimulating but not overwhelming.

Since Fridays are usually very busy and the venue is quite small, visitors should purchase a ticket for £10 to enter the café. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

If you arrive after midnight, however, you probably will not need a ticket, as the venue tends to be quieter after 12am.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with bright blue walls and purple and white Wisteria cascading down from the ceiling.

On the left, there is a selfie corner with more Wisteria, decorated with pretty little peacock figures and peacock feathers. You can sit on one of the blue plush stools to pose with your food or drink. The large mirror behind the installation will make your photo more epic.

On the right, there are a few garden tables with matching chairs. It’s a pretty cozy corner with even more flowers waiting to be the backdrop of your afternoon tea.

The afternoon tea consists of 2 toasties of your choice with Karak Chai.

There are 5 different toasties to choose from: Rainbow Cheese, Chilli Cheese, Bombay Potato, Chicken Tikka and Tuna Melt.

We chose the Chicken Tikka and the Bombay Potato toasties.

The Chicken Tikka toastie was Chicken Tikka with cheese mix, yoghurt & mint sauce, tomato, red onion and lettuce.

The Bombay Potato toastie was potato with cheese mix, tempered spiced onions, coriander, green chilli and green chutney spread.

The toasties were generous in both size and filling. Particularly loved the Chicken Tikka. It was full of flavour and the chicken went really well with the yoghurt & mint sauce.

The tea was served in the most Instagrammable pot and cup, in matching colour of the interior.

If you have never tried Karak Chai before:

Karak Chai is a sweet hot tea served with milk. It’s a strong tea compered to regular English tea.

The blend is made with fermented black tea leaves, ginger, and spices, such as pepper, cardamon, cinnamon, fennel and cloves. Karak Chai is popular in Arabian countries.

What is London Mithraeum

London Mithraeum is a free to visit ancient temple dedicated to a mysterious Roman god, Mithras, in the heart of London.

London Mithraeum is located at one of London’s lost rivers, the Walbrook which was there when the Romans founded Londinium 2,000 years ago.

After 200 years Londinium was built, the Romans constructed a temple to God Mithras next to the river.

We don’t know much about Mithras, but according to research he first appeared in Rome in the 1^st century AD.

The temple was constructed below ground where people would have gathered for rituals.

The mythological scene where God Mithras kills a bull is called ‘tauroctony’ and is the heart of the cult, however, its full meaning is subject of speculation.

London Mithraeum was discovered on 18^th September 1954 and quickly became a sensation.

Thousands of people flocked to the archaeological site to marvel at the Roman remains, while the widespread media coverage captured the imagination of the public worldwide. The excavation was supported by Winston Churchill and have become one of the most significant events in British archaeological history.

The London Mithraeum Today

Today London Mithraeum is a free to visit museum where visitors can see the reconstructed remains of the Temple of Mithras and lots of artefacts found between 2012 and 2014 during the archaeological excavation.

During the excavation more than 14,000 individual artefacts were discovered, including Roman pottery, animal bones, coins and more.

You can see some these items displayed on the ground floor.

TIP: Make sure you grab one of the tablets provided to learn more about each of the artefacts.

On the first floor below ground visitors can listen to the story of God Mithras illustrated with an amazing shadow play projected on the walls.

Here, visitors also have a chance to learn more about Mithras and the temple before they descend to the second floor below ground to see the temple and be part of an immersive experience with light and sound effects.

London Mithraeum is family-friendly, making sure to keep kids entertained. Ask for an activity sheet at the reception and keep your little one busy by finding specific objects and solving puzzles.

Dream – Bridge – Omnigliph by Leo Robinson at The London Mithraeum

London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE often provides space for temporary exhibitions from emerging contemporary artists.

‘Dream – Bridge – Omnigliph’ is created by contemporary artist Leo Robinson who graduated at the Manchester School of Art in 2016.

Robinson uses religion and psychoanalysis to construct ritual objects, maps, games, and musical instruments to symbolise imagined ritual ceremonies.

‘Dream – Bridge – Omniglyph’ showcases an archway producing transitory sounds, a series of fantastical musical instruments inspired by harps and string instruments from West Africa and Ethiopia, a large tapestry and symbols and images painted on the wall.

With these objects, Robinson transforms the space into an imagined ritual scene.

Just a short walk from King’s Cross St. Pancras Station, Hello Brain! exhibition uncovers the secrets of the human mind, explores how our brain develops in our mother’s womb and discovers the factors that make each of us unique.

Upon your arrival hundreds of knitted and crocheted neurons greet you at the exhibition entrance dangling from the ceiling.

If you want to make your own brain cell, patterns and materials are all available at the café throughout the exhibition!

The small exhibition has a lot to say and showcase starting from how a fly can smell, through how human brain changes during pregnancy to how our brain changes throughout our life.

The exhibition features a short documentary about the mystery of sleep. Why do we sleep and what is our brain doing while we sleep?

Another film looks deeper into hallucination and even makes the audience have an auditory hallucination as they watch and listen to a film.

During your journey, you’ll find touchable 3D printed brains of animals, fun mini experiments to trick your brain and fun facts about the brain on the ‘Brain Cards’.

Hello Brain! is a fascinating pocket exhibition covering a handful of research areas in an easy-to-understand and interesting way.

After ordering your coffee and sandwich, make sure you head to the hidden basement where a beautiful secret awaits you.

This hidden basement with a few extra tables and seats offers the vibes of an ancient Greek hall.

The floor is covered with white tiles and on the walls large mirrors reflect the intricate wall decoration made of pieces of sculptures, elements of cast iron decorations and everyday objects.

Some other sculptures stand under vaults carved in the walls, while climbing plants and other greenery break the pure white colour of the room. Natural light comes through the large windows seeing to the rare garden.

Perfect hideaway from the buzzing city life.

Museum of Curiosity – A Weird and Wonderful Collection of Oddities

Museum of Curiosity is definitely the weirdest museum in London and it’s not for everyone. Some return every week while others find it disgusting and never go back.

This museum is anything but standard and ordinary. Viktor Wynd, the owner of the collection, has spent a lifetime travelling the globe from Papua New Guinea to Congo to collect his weird and wonderful collection of oddities.

Another World

A spiral staircase leads the visitors into the basement of the former call centre, Museum of Curiosity has been furnished in. Down there you will find yourself in a weird eccentric world, full of odd creatures, occult cabinets, bottled and conserved animals, spell books, dead mermaids and more.

The museum’s purpose is not to attempt to educate and explain the world by a neat and labelled exhibition. Instead, Museum of Curiosity wants to shock and amaze its visitors and show the odd side of the world through a random collection of rare and priceless marvels.

So What to Expect

Relics of extinct birds, Elvis Presley’s hair, leg bone of an Irish giant, a correct mini representation of Lord Nelson’s coffin, a human scalp from the 18^th century, hair of a Titanic survivor, pinned butterflies from the most hidden corners of the globe and much more.

The Bar

Museum of Curiosity opened in 2016. Being voted the ‘Best Bar in all of London’ in 2019, Absinthe Parlour & Cocktail Bar have the UK’s most extensive list of premium quality, traditional absinthes that they pair with their wide range of curious cocktails. This is the only cocktail bar hosting absinthe hour in London.

And how are the cocktails? Weird and untraditional as expected from London’s weirdest museum’s bar. Forget traditions and protocol. The cocktails here are a blend of alchemy, magic and fantasy that takes you beyond the known world to the mystery of undiscovered.

The bar gives home to skeletons, unicorn skulls, animal heads and a stuffed half lioness to share your experience with if you happen to visit the bar alone.

A Marine Oasis: St Katharine Docks

St Katharine Docks welcomes vessels from all over the world since the 10^th century, when King Edgar decided to reward his 13 knights with lands. Those lands later became St Katharine Dock.

The History

In the 18^th century Merchant William Vaughn lobbied to increase the dock’s capacity to be able to import more goods.

In 1836 the St Katharine Docks was redesigned and become able to handle more goods faster then any other sites in the world.

An additional warehouse was built in 1858, called the “i”. This warehouse is what we call Ivy House today.

In 1940 St Katharine Dock becomes famous by its valuable cargos such as wine, tea, perfume, indigo, spices, marble and more.

Interesting Facts

In 1985 Earnie Wise made the first mobile phone call with a 5KG Vodfone VT from St Katherine Docks, outside the Dickens Inn.

In 1999 the first river boat service arrived at St Katherine Piers and the Docks further built its reputation by becoming an elegant dining spot.

Today

Today St Katharine Dock is a hidden gem and a heart-warming contrast of the nearby attractions.

Walking through the maze of the dock admiring the old and new ships and yachts and discover the nearby cozy restaurants and bars is a great way the spend the day.

What to Do

From coffee with friend to dining with family to late night shopping, St Katherine Docks offers plenty of choices to spend your free time.

The Docks offer regular events and experiences throughout the year, for example, you can go behind the scenes to see how Dock Masters spend an average day, if you’re a boat or yacht owner, you can get help to prepare for winter or explore Lady Daphne, the most famous of London’s classic wooden barges still sailing.

The Dickens Inn is a traditional English pub that was restyled and reconstructed from an 18^th century warehouse.

Interesting fact: the pub was opened in 1976 by Cedric Charles Dickens, grandson of the famous author Charles Dickens. He said: “My great grandfather would have loved this pub.”

The Medieval Banquet

The gates of The Medieval Banquet simply cannot be missed: two life-sized armours are guarding the gates, and it’s irresistible to take a selfie with them.

The Medieval Banquet is famous for their immersive medieval theatre-dining experiences.

You can even hire costumes and pretend you’re a royal guest, a wench or a knight just returned from the battlefield.

Travel back in time and find yourself in the days of kings, queens and knights. Dance with a unicorn or let acrobats entertain you. Just don’t pretend you’re not hungry. (wink)
