Kyotographie: Kawada Kikuji x Iwane Ai brings together two Japanese photographers for the first time.
The two photographers are connected by the poetic atmosphere of their works and that they both exploring loss and belonging.

Kawada Kikuji (93) is known for his revolutionary photobook, called Chizu (The Map) which examines the scars of the post war period. The photobook is a collection of images taken at the remains of the Genbaku (A-Bomb) Dome after the atomic bomb hit Hiroshima.
Photo: Urban Adventurer
The photos showcase dark, atmospheric images of what remained after the terrible attack: haunting silhouettes of humans on the wall whose bodies literally evaporated at the very moment of the explosion, Coca Cola bottles sinking into a pool of grey ash, and seemingly abstract images capturing blemishes on the walls and the ceiling.
Visitors can also have the rare chance to experience The Last Cosmology, a series of striking celestial phenomena, peculiar weather conditions and solar eclipse captured between 1980 and 2,000.
Iwane Ai (51) represents a new generation of Japanese photographers. Her award-winning collection, Kipuka, is exploring the lives of Japanese immigrants in Hawaii.

Iwane Ai’s photographs are frozen in time moments, capturing spontaneous moments of traditional Bon dances, a Buddhist ritual, and commemorative images of Japanese funerals in Hawaii.

A New River is a haunting series of cherry blossoms captured at night time during the COVID_19 pandemic. The photos are featuring eerily lit trees at night with characters from Japanese folk traditions.
Both photographers have been featured in Kyotographie, an international photography festival held across Kyoto (hence the name) every year.
Kyotographie: Kawada Kikuji x Iwane Ai is the first ever photography exhibition held at Japan House London. The exhibition is organised in partnership with Kyotographie International Photography Festival and supported by Epson UK Ltd.

Haunting Tales, Gothic Atmosphere and Themed Cocktails – Welcome to the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy
Image in courtesy of FEVER UK
Edgar Allan Poe’s life was just as mysterious as his death.
Poe became an orphan just before his third birthday after his mother died in tuberculosis and his father abandoned the family. In his late teens, Poe lost his foster mother he had had a very close relationship with. Later, he also lost his wife at the age of just 22.
There are periods of Poe’s life that are poorly documented, full of gaps and mysteries, including a period from 1826 – 1833 and his final days.
At the age of 40, Edgar Allan Poe was found at Baltimore nearly unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital where he drifted in and out of consciousness. He was hallucinating and speaking nonsense when he was awake. An eerie detail is that he was found not wearing his own clothes. Instead of his usual black wool suit, he was wearing an ill-fitting cheap suit and a straw hat.
Edgar Allan Poe died on the 7th October 1849.
His is famous for his horror stories focusing on paranoia, betrayal, loss, and murder. Some his most famous – and scariest – stories are The Tell-Tale Heart, The Black Cat, The Raven, and The Masque of the Red Death.
These are the stories that will be taken off the page and one to the stage by Poe historians at the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy.
Image in courtesy of FEVER UK
Glaziers Hall will transform into a darkly elegant Gothic mansion where Poe historians and macabre led mixologists will guide you through a 90-minute journey of dark literature.
Image in courtesy of FEVER UK
Located on the south side of London Bridge, Glaziers Hall offers stunning views to River Themes and the Fishmongers’ Hall. The building is known for its historical significance and Victorian architecture.

Each tale is paired with a deliciously eerie cocktail or mocktail to transport you deep into Edgar Allan Poe’s haunting tales and dark fantasies.
Tale 1: Tell-Tale Heart – Paired with the Pale Blue Eye
Tale 2: The Black Cat – Paired with The Cat’s Meow
Tale 3: The Raven – Paired with the Nevermore
Tale 4: The Masque of the Red Death – Paired with the Cocktail of the Red Death

‘London’s Kings Cross Station’ cocktail
Photo: Urban Adventurer
‘London’s Kings Cross Station’, for example, is a salted caramel flavoured cocktail topped with cream and served in a glass ice cream cone. It’s inspired by Swiss entrepreneur, Carlo Gatti, who made ice cream accessible to the Victorian public. One of his original wells still exists near Kings Cross Station. This cocktail is available in alcohol free version.
‘The Strand’ cocktail
Photo: Urban Adventurer
‘The Strand’ is a refreshing blend of raspberry, cucumber and elderflower boozy iced tea. This cocktail is served in a disco ball and inspired by the first Twinings Tea Shop which opened on the Strand in 1719. Author of Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, Jane Austen often visited the shop whenever she was in London to visit her brother, Henry.
‘Fleet Street’ cocktail
Photo: Urban Adventurer
‘Fleet Street’ is a black ink dark cherry Martini, that pays homage to the famous Fleet Street which has been regarded as the heart of British printing and publishing since the 16th century. And – of course – notorious for the murderer barber, Sweeny Todd.
The cocktail comes with an ink bottle that you need to open and pour the (dr)ink into your glass yourself.
Craving something simpler?
Classic cocktails, soft drinks and a selection of wine and beer are also available to wet your throat during your visit.
The food menu is just as creative as the cocktail menu.
Go big with ‘The Cash Cow’ beef burger, stuffed with smoked streaky bacon, melted mature cheese, tomato, pickle, lettuce and onion, served with skin-on chips in a metal boot? Not a fan of beef? Switch to vegan patty!

Boost your energy with ‘The High Flyer’ chicken burger, seved with trimmings of marinated chicken, rainbow slaw, chipotle mayo and skin-on chips.
Craving something lighter? ‘The Jailbird’ is a house Cesar Salad with roasted chicken breast, sourdough croutons, and house Cesar dressing.
Not starving but want some nibbles?
Choose ‘The Banker’s Share’ if you’re with company. It’s baked Camembert with warm baked bread and chutney.
‘Roll with’ some curried sausage rolls with chutney, ‘Deep Dive’ into some crispy calamari and Aleppo chilli served with homemade tartar sauce or celebrate your ‘Sweet Victory’ with corn ribs with house salsa and plant based feta.
Make sure you leave space for ‘Mr Monopoly’s Millionaire Cheesecake’, ‘The Prize Brownie’ or ‘The Top Hat Finest Eton Mess’ at the end of your dinner.

The event is designed to have hilarious moments with lots of laughter, adding a little mischief to the night and…maybe revealing a little more than planned.
Your ticket – of course – includes three special chocolate cocktails (the standard menu also available), including S’More Amore, Red Velvet Martini and Berry in Love.

Inventive Productions – the masterminds behind London’s best immersive cocktail experiences, Alcotraz, Avora, and Moonshine Saloon – opened the iron gates to Hexmoor, their newest immersive cocktail adventure last Autumn.
Hexmoor is a hidden wizard prison where the magical world’s most notorious criminals go: those who have practiced dark magic.

The venue is well hidden within Alcotraz, so ‘inmates’ (that’s you) have to tell the security guy that they are here for the Hexmoor experience.
Your experience starts before even getting to the venue. Following your booking, an email will be sent with a form to be filled in. In that form you can choose what ‘crime’ you have committed as a wizard that resulted your imprisonment at Hexmoor. That will help you interact and communicate with the actors and fellow inmates during the experience.

After a brief health and safety guide, you’ll be escorted to the underground prison where each group gets their own prison cell.
In your cell, you’ll don your green and white striped Hexmoor jumpsuit and your real experience starts immediately.
Unlike other Inventive Production experience, here you don’t have to bring your own liquor. Instead, each inmate gets the same cocktail or mocktail (a host will ask you if you wish to drink cocktails or mocktails).
Three Magical Cocktails

During the experience three magical cocktails will be served that – according to the plot – weaken your magical abilities as a prisoner.
The first drink is served in a modest brown vessel, garnished with dried flowers, while the second is made in front of your eyes by a hexologist.
This cocktail changes colour with every ingredient added and prepared on a glowing stand, so you can take amazing photos and videos.

The third is a beautiful glow-in-the-dark cocktail (the cocktail glows in bright green while the mocktail version glows in blue). That truly adds to the whole experience.
Immersive Storyline, Wizard Battles and Film-Like Sets

The 1hr 45min experience is a carefully choreographed immersive theatre where everyone has the chance to interact with the actors and take active part in the storyline.
You will experience film-like sets that typically only seen in Hollywood films, like Harry Potter. That and the brilliant actors will guarantee to immediately bring you into the magical world of Hexmoor. At the end you might not even want to leave your prison cell.

During the experience, inmates meet a powerful sorceress, Cordelia Constance-Xanthe the Head of Hexmoor, visit a hidden wand shop, called Willbott’s Wand Shop that can only be reached through a magical fireplace.
According to the storyline, an evil wizard, the Hollow King is about to return that only the ‘chosen one’ can defeat with the mysterious Cardinal Wand. The problem is, nobody knows who the ‘chosen one’ is, where the Cardinal Wand is and there is a suspicion that someone from Hexmoor is secretly serving the Hollow King.
Your task is to try to figure out who the secret servant is and who the ‘chosen one’ is.
You will be brought to a secret chamber where you can discuss your theory before your final cocktail served and the peak of the story unfolds with intense wizard battles and huge surprises.
Make sure you have you camera ready because there will be lots of intense battles, smoke, light, sound effects and pyrotechnics.
