Game of Thrones Studio Tours invites you behind the scenes and guides you through six iconic sets containing original props and costumes used during filming and worn by your favourite actors.

The studio tour is located in Banbridge, Northern Ireland (30-minutes from Belfast) at a former linen mill factory which was operating there during the 1900s.

After the linen factory had moved, the site became a filming studio. The studio stretches at 10,000 sq ft and now home to Game of Thrones Studio Tour that reveals all the secrets behind the scenes of the iconic series from the earliest concepts, sketches, costume designs, and maquettes to the final versions we actually see in the film.

Winterfell

The Great Hall of Winterfell remained as it was originally built for filming. You can stand at exact the same spot your favourite actors stood and recreate the most iconic moments.

You can see never-before-seen early sketches, maquettes, and designs. Every set, prop, sigil, wall flag and furniture you see in the series had to be designed, prototyped and created by the talented team of artists and designers of Game of Thrones.

Costume Design - Game of Thrones Studio Tour

All intricate details of the costumes were meticulously designed by artists led by award-winning costume designer Michele Clapton. Think of the militaristic style of Cersei’s coronation gown, or Daenerys Targaryen’s dramatic white fur coat.

Special & Visual Effects

Special and Visual Effects - Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Photo: Urban Adventurer

The magic of Game of Thrones could have never happened without the Special Effect and Visual Effect team.

Deanerys’ dragons: Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion and other breath-taking scenes, such as the Wall were created with cutting edge technology. Many of those scenes were filmed in front of a green screen before the special effect and visual effect team brought them to life.

It means, the actors and actresses had to rely on their imagination. All they had were a few reference marks on the walls and the ground to help them navigate as they were acting.

Prosthetics & Makeup

Prosthetics and Makeup - Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Photo: Urban Adventurer

The prosthetic and makeup department spent tremendous amount of time to create other-worldly masks based of the actors’ faces.

First, they had to make a silicon mould of the actors’ faces, then they started building the incredibly lifelike masks and prosthetics to transform the actors into mythical creatures.

Watch the painstakingly long and intricate process of creating masks. Many of the actors and actresses had to sit on the makeup chair for long hours waiting for their masks and makeup to be applied and get ready for filming.

Props & Weapons
