Ma Eum Korean restaurant is located in the pulsing heart of London, just a few minutes walk from Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben.

The restaurant is offering authentic Korean dining experience with all the popular Korean classics on their menu, including Korean Bibimbap, Korean-style fried chicken, Korean hot pot, soups, noodles and more.

The absolute star of the show, however, is the Chef Special’s marinated raw crab with spicy yangnyeom sauce (it tastes like teriyaki sauce, but spicier and more umami) or soy sauce for those who are not fan of spicy food.

If you haven’t tried crab before, don’t worry. The staff is very friendly and explain all the ins and outs of how to eat a crab and even provide gloves you can use (you’ll have to eat with your fingers) to keep your hands clean.

As we are a huge fan Korean hot pots, we also ordered the ‘BudaeJjigae’ (Army Stew Pot) which was made with kimchee sausage, pork, ramen noodle, ham and cheese.

You can have a variety of additional toppings, including mixed seafood, fish cake, tofu, marinated pork bulgogi, fried egg and more.

Tofu Bibimbap was served with tons of vegetables (bean sprouts, radish, mushroom, courgette and seaweed) and topped with a fried egg. It was full of flavour and the vegetables were crunchy and very refreshing.

We also had Spicy Squid Korean BBQ. The squid had been marinated in spicy chili sauce and sesame oil. It was served hot was absolutely amazing!

To wet your throat, there is a range of alcoholic and non-an alcoholic beverages to choose from, including Soju, plum wine, banana makgeolli and Korean beer. Hot tea is also available to order.

The Interior

The interior is simple and welcoming. Deep red and deep brown colours are dominating. The customer area is not too large but airy. Elegant wooden dividers add to the relaxing ambiance.

Ma Eum is a true hidden gem in the very heart of London, offering truly authentic Korean dining experience, serving food rarely can be find anywhere else in London.

Karaoke Room

Make your night out truly unforgettable with a karaoke experience. The restaurant has a lovely party room to hire with karaoke.

You can book the room for a minimum of 5-8 people for 3 hours with a minimum spend £180.

Make Your Own Ramen

Located in Kensington High Street, just a 7-min walk from Kensington Palace, freshly opened SABA Convenience Store is a heaven for those who love instant ramen and Korean food.

The family-owned store is small but immaculate and cute. Upon entering, you are greeted by a massive wall full of the most different instant ramens you can imagine. From seafood, to spicy to Kimchi, you’ll definitely find your favourite.

Once you’ve found your favourite ramen, bring it to the till where you’ll be given a bowl with a bar code on it. For some extra, you can add toppings, such as fish cake, mixed veg, and rice cake.

After paying for your ramen, it’s time to cook it with one of the ramen making machines.

Don’t worry if you’ve never used a machine like that before. The staff is super friendly and always happy to help and explain everything.

Basically, all you need to do is to open your ramen and put everything into the bowl you’ve previously given, scan the bar code on your bowl, then place the bowl on the hotplate, and press start.

The machine will automatically add hot water to your ramen and cook it for 5 minutes.

Now, all you need to do is to watch your ramen being cooked in front of you while taking as much mouth-watering videos and photos as you like.

Add your toppings at the end of the cooking process and you’re done.

Carefully take your bowl out from the machine and enjoy your ramen.

Before opening their modern Korean restaurant with crystal bricks, traditional drum décor and mirror ceiling, Hankki had invited their community to come up with creative name ideas for the venue.

The result was announced this March, and the winning name became ‘Hankki’ (한끼) which is a Korean word, meaning ‘one meal’.

Hankki blends modern ideas with traditional Korean flavours to deliver a memorable ‘one meal’ experience. Hankki pushes away boundaries and invites their customers for a culinary journey to experience South Korean flavours with a twist.

Weather you try their ‘Korean Army Stew’, their signature ‘Black Pink’ charcoal fried chicken or one of their handcrafted ‘Soju’ (Korea’s national drink), Hankki’s innovative modern Korean flavours will never leave you disappointed.

The Atmosphere

Upon your arrival you’ll be immediately captivated by the modern Korean nightclub-inspired décor with illuminating crystal bricks, neon signs and mirror ceiling, transporting you straight in the heart of Seoul.

Spot the elegant décor at the staircase made out of traditional Korean ‘buk’ (drums) and the elegant modern crystal glass walls.

The best K-pop songs are played, adding to the modern Korean experience.

Hankki have an amazing selection of modern Korean food, including some more traditional, such as ‘Kimchi Tofu Soup with Rice’ and very innovative and Insta-worthy, such ‘Black Pink’ charcoal fried chicken with dragon fruit sauce.

Here’s what we ordered:

Golden Budae Jjigae with Chicken

It’s a huge portion of rich Korean stew. It comes with chicken slices (you can choose beef or pork instead of chicken), soybean, Shin Ramyun Noodles, cabbage, Kimchi, pink mushroom, oyster mushrooms and courgette slices.

They cook it right in front of you and once it’s ready, you serve it for yourself.

It’s moderately spicy. Perfect in the chilly weather of Winter.

BBQ Stone Grill Spicy Pork

Grilled by one of the team to perfection in front of you and served on lettuce bed with Kimchi and spicy sauce.

The thin perfectly seasoned meat slices melt in your mouth. Matches very well with the spicy sauce and the Kimchi.

Black Pink Fried Chicken

‘Black Pink Fried Chicken’ is one of Hankki’s signature dishes. This show-stopping culinary masterpiece is a combination of succulence of charcoal fried chicken with an exotic twist: pink dragon fruit sauce.

Make sure you have your camera ready because you don’t want to miss the super TikTok-able moment of pouring the vibrant pink sauce on your charcoal fried chicken pieces.

Hankki glittery ’Soju’ drinks are a must-try if you really want to crown your modern Korean experience.

‘Soju’ is Korea’s national drink, originally made from rice, however, it changed over time. Today ‘Soju’ is made of grains and starches, such as tapioca, barley, or sweet potato.

What we see in the market today is the so called ‘green-bottle Soju’, however, Hankki has taken a step further and offer ‘Soju’ in four different flavours with different alcohol contents, served in the most modern way.

All types of ‘Soju’ are served in an elegant, branded bottle with colourful edible glitter.

Beautifully crafted house cocktails and mocktails are also available at Hankki, alongside with wine, sparkling wine, Prosecco, beer, and soft drinks.

We tried the ‘Pink Bag’ mocktail which was served in the most eye-catchy glass! The mocktail was a flavourful blend of homemade Calpis, fresh strawberry, and Aloe Vera juice.

Hankki serves the most adorable puppy shaped Yuzu Cheesecake. The cake is served with a cute panna cotta bone on cookie crumble bed.

We also ordered the ‘Dalgona Coffee Puff’. Three large coffee choux buns served with Korean-style whipped coffee.

Ready for your next adventure? New exhibition opened in Japan House London. The Ainu people were the earliest settlers of Hokkaido, and a small community is still living in the basement of the Saru River. The exhibition gives visitors a rare opportunity to experience first-hand how Ainu people are living today.

Tucked away in Margaret Street, just 3-min walk from Oxford Circus, there is a lovely hidden gem and it’s a must-visit for K-pop fans. K-POP is London’s first (and only) K-pop-themed restaurant with an atmospheric basement, lovely staff, and great menu of authentic Korean foods.

K-POP is a family owned and family run Korean restaurant and they really put their hearts into it. You are literally served by the members of the family, and they go out of their way to give you the best service possible.

The 2-story restaurant is dedicated to K-pop music and idols. There are pictures of K-pop idols everywhere and you can listen to the best K-pop music while dining.

Upstairs, there is also a blackboard with rainbow chalks for visitors to write messages or draw something K-pop related.

Upstairs they mainly serve takeaway orders but there are tables and chairs if you want to sit down.

A beautiful Victorian cast iron staircase leads to downstairs to a smaller yet much more decorative dining area. Wooden and bamboo decorations, a huge mirror and a cute neon sign provide the perfect backdrop for your Insta pics and TikTok videos.

The menu is surprisingly extensive, given that the restaurant itself is not that big. There are so many options to choose from. From starters to noodles and soups to rice dishes there are over 70 different dishes on the menu, including vegan, halal, and glute free options.

To wash your throat, you can order Korean alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks.
