The Chimney Lift is the only one in the world that allows visitors to ascend to over 100 metres high through an industrial chimney in a glass elevator.

The Chimney Lift, however, is more than just an elevator!

Security Check at The Chimney Lift Experience at Battersea Power Station

Your experience starts right at the entrance where you enter a light-up turbine to undergo a quick airport-style security check. It was the most Insta-worthy security check we’ve ever experienced.

Note: You’re our only allowed to bring a A4 size bag.

After the security check, your real journey starts with a very interactive exhibition.

Did you know that Battersea Power Station was designed by architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the same architect who designed the iconic red telephone box?

The exhibition re-creates Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s London office featuring a desk, photos, objects, books, and – of course – blueprints of the Power Station.

There is a touch-activated wall that shows how the power station was built, how it was damaged during the world wars and how it supplied electricity to London’s most famous buildings, including the Houses of Parliament and the Buckingham Palace.

Use the joystick to collect and deliver coal from a boat to the Power Station, turn the valve handle to pump water into the boiler, control the steam flow, release the energy, and hit the big red button at the right moment to power up and watch the chimney light up above your head.

Before the ascending, you’ll enter a 360 degree immersive projection room to learn more about the evolution of Battersea Power Station from its construction in the 1930s to its shutdown in 1983 to its full makeover and re-opening in 2022.

Now, you’ll take an elevator and go up to 12 floors, climb 39 steps (accessible route available) and step inside the chimney lift.

A friendly and knowledgeable host will be your guide.
