The exhibition brings together over 150 of the artist’s original works from his earliest artworks to his more mature masterpieces while highlighting techniques that shaped his practices.

M.C. Escher – The Exhibition is more than just pictures on the wall.

 

It’s an immersive exhibition with a mirror room, interactive print gallery, and a fun relativity room.

 

Visitors will get a glimpse into how Escher’s artistic career started at the School of Architecture Decorative Arts and Crafts in Haarlem, and how Art Nouveau and Symbolism influenced him.

You will see how his first visit to Italy left a great impact on his artistic journey. He collected sketches and photographs of landscapes that he later translated into lithographs and woodcuts, including the famous ‘Tower of Babel’ (1928).

Many intricate geometrical works are also on display to challenge your perception. You’ll be guided through impossible constructions, tessellations, metamorphosis, spatial structures and his iconic visual paradoxes that make his works instantly recognisable.

 

Visitors have the rare opportunity to get up close to some of Escher’s signature works, including ‘Hand with Reflecting Sphere’ (1935), ‘Day and Night’ (1938), ‘Eye’ (1946), ‘Relativity’ (1953), ‘Print Gallery’ (1956), and ‘Bond of Union’ (1956).

Infinity Room

Observe your reflection under flying angels and be part of an enigmatic optical illusion, just like M.C. Esher’s famous painting, ‘Profondeur’.

 

Relativity Room

  

If you’ve ever been to Paradox Museum, this Relativity Room will be familiar to you.

 

This is the room where you see yourself very small or very large depending on where you stand in the room. It’s even more fun if you’re with another person and change corners, so one of you shrinks, while the other one suddenly becomes a giant.
