Moon Exhibition at National History Museum

 Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 Moon landing, a series of events, exhibitions and talks are taken place across London this year.

One of the most spectacular exhibitions is the 6-metre model of the Moon, sculpted after meticulously detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. Museum of the Moon exhibition opened this May and can be visited till 5 January 2020. The spectacular Moon installation and exhibition is in Jerwood Gallery within the museum and is completely free. On the top, visitors can enjoy free interactive theatre performances under the giant Moon.

Moon-Sized Exhibition at National Maritime Museum in Greenwich

The UK’s biggest exhibition about the Moon is taken place at National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.

What to expect?

  • Lunar samples collected from NASA’s Apollo missions and the Soviet Union’s Luna programme
  • A Mesopotamian Tablet from 172 BCE, one of the oldest objects on display, showing how lunar eclipses were considered to be bad omens
  • The Hasselblad camera equipment that captured some of the most recognisable and iconic space photos of the 20th century
  • Hugh Percy Wilkins’ Moon map
  • The “Snoopy Cap” Communications Carrier, worn by astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin during Apollo 11
  • Artworks from artists including J.M.W. Turner, El Anatsui, Tom Hammick and Larissa Sansour

Summer of Space at Science Museum

Summer of Space festival is May-September 2019 at Science Museum. The festival includes IMAX Moon landing experience: 70mm footage and newly discovered audio recording give you real-life experience of the first Moon landing. More info and tickets here.

Special Limited Edition of National Geographic Magazine – Reprint of the Historic 1969 Magazine

If exhibitions and events are not an option for you for some reason, you can still celebrate Moon landing in many different ways.

Did you know the July edition of National Geographic Magazine contains a limited edition of reprint of the historical 1969 about Apollo 11 Moon Mission and safe landing to Earth? The magazine contains printed version of the original radio communication between Apollo 11 astronauts and the NASA, including President Richard Nixon’s telephone call, conversation between Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin while collecting samples and of course Neil Armstrong’s famous quote: “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

The special edition is full of original photos taken by Apollo 11 astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins.
