Inventive Productions – the masterminds behind London’s best immersive cocktail experiences, Alcotraz, Avora, and Moonshine Saloon – opened the iron gates to Hexmoor, their newest immersive cocktail adventure last Autumn.

Hexmoor is a hidden wizard prison where the magical world’s most notorious criminals go: those who have practiced dark magic.

The venue is well hidden within Alcotraz, so ‘inmates’ (that’s you) have to tell the security guy that they are here for the Hexmoor experience.

Your experience starts before even getting to the venue. Following your booking, an email will be sent with a form to be filled in. In that form you can choose what ‘crime’ you have committed as a wizard that resulted your imprisonment at Hexmoor. That will help you interact and communicate with the actors and fellow inmates during the experience.

After a brief health and safety guide, you’ll be escorted to the underground prison where each group gets their own prison cell.

In your cell, you’ll don your green and white striped Hexmoor jumpsuit and your real experience starts immediately.

Unlike other Inventive Production experience, here you don’t have to bring your own liquor. Instead, each inmate gets the same cocktail or mocktail (a host will ask you if you wish to drink cocktails or mocktails).

Three Magical Cocktails

During the experience three magical cocktails will be served that – according to the plot – weaken your magical abilities as a prisoner.

The first drink is served in a modest brown vessel, garnished with dried flowers, while the second is made in front of your eyes by a hexologist.

This cocktail changes colour with every ingredient added and prepared on a glowing stand, so you can take amazing photos and videos.

The third is a beautiful glow-in-the-dark cocktail (the cocktail glows in bright green while the mocktail version glows in blue). That truly adds to the whole experience.

Immersive Storyline, Wizard Battles and Film-Like Sets

The 1hr 45min experience is a carefully choreographed immersive theatre where everyone has the chance to interact with the actors and take active part in the storyline.

You will experience film-like sets that typically only seen in Hollywood films, like Harry Potter. That and the brilliant actors will guarantee to immediately bring you into the magical world of Hexmoor. At the end you might not even want to leave your prison cell.

During the experience, inmates meet a powerful sorceress, Cordelia Constance-Xanthe the Head of Hexmoor, visit a hidden wand shop, called Willbott’s Wand Shop that can only be reached through a magical fireplace.

According to the storyline, an evil wizard, the Hollow King is about to return that only the ‘chosen one’ can defeat with the mysterious Cardinal Wand. The problem is, nobody knows who the ‘chosen one’ is, where the Cardinal Wand is and there is a suspicion that someone from Hexmoor is secretly serving the Hollow King.

Your task is to try to figure out who the secret servant is and who the ‘chosen one’ is.

You will be brought to a secret chamber where you can discuss your theory before your final cocktail served and the peak of the story unfolds with intense wizard battles and huge surprises.

Make sure you have you camera ready because there will be lots of intense battles, smoke, light, sound effects and pyrotechnics.

Starting at Farringdon and ending at St Paul’s Cathedral, ‘Hex and the City – London Witches’ guides you through hidden places and locations that were associated with witches and occult activity.

At each stop, you’ll be immersed into the mysterious world of witchcraft and meet mediums, pagan priestesses and medieval healers who met their faith at the stake as ‘agents of Satan’.

TOP by Claye Bowler opened on the 10^th September 2025 and follows Bowler’s incredible 7-year journey through the UK healthcare system from the very beginning.

The display is disguised as a museum store and documents the artist’s whole journey from his first visit to a GP, his actual surgery and stages of healing to his recovery revisions.

There are sculptures, drawings, photos, letters and other collected objects on display to bring Bowler’s incredible journey – and what a transformation like this means to a trans person – closer to the audience, not just physically but emotionally.

Claye Bowler is a London-based artist. He uses sculptural practices to highlight and document stories that are not historically collected, preserve meaningful memories and the remnants of humanity. He often works with narratives of queerness and disability.

Bowler has a strong connection to sound and music which he often integrates into his works using field of recording and traditional British folk music and songs.

Bowler debuted at the Henry Moore Institute in 2022, and different elements of TOP are now in the collections of Arts Council England and the Wellcome Collection.

The exhibition of his artworks is now open for everyone thanks to the Weston Loan Programme, the UK’s first funding scheme that enable smaller and regional museums to borrow artworks and artefacts from national collections.

Claye Bowler said: “When creating Top, I initially thought it was about dysphoria, but through sharing it and engaging with visitors during its first showing, I realised it’s actually a celebration of being trans and overcoming struggle. I’m excited to share the work again with Queer Britain visitors, allowing people to experience this joy again. The work also comments on queerness in a museum context, of the purpose of museums, and of collecting objects. As the first museum dedicated to LGBTQ+ stories, Queer Britain offers the perfect context for this work to resonate and question these ideas.”

Vistors to TOP exhibition can also see a display from the Museum of Transology, the UK’s most significant collection of objects representing trans, non-binary and intersex people’s lives.

Yayoi Kusama: Every Day I Pray for Love

Yayoi Kusama is one of the top selling artists in the world and an Internet sensation since Tate Modern opened its ‘Infinity Mirrored Room’ exhibition last year. The exhibition has been extended multiple times due to high demand but many of us sadly still missed the opportunity to visit.

Kusama’s new exhibition ‘Yayoi Kusama: Every Day I Pray for Love’ at Victoria Miro Gallery is completely free and features a brand new infinity mirror room.

Infinity Mirrored Room – Beauty Described by a Spherical Heart

The brand new infinity room is called ‘Beauty Described by a Spherical Heart’ and only six people are allowed inside at a time to maximise the experience.

Visitors are allowed to spend a very limited time inside the hexagonal room, but it still very much of an experience.

The infinity room features coloured flashing LED lights enclosed in a hexagonal room, arranged in a concentric pattern. A large, mirrored sphere is hanging in the middle of the room to create spectacular reflections of visitors and the mirrored walls, widening the space endlessly echoing everything and everybody in it.

Large-Scale Installations

‘The Moment of Regeneration’ – 2024

The exhibition features two large-scale installations.

‘The Moment of Regeneration’ is a recent artwork by Kusama, featuring a series of tree-like installations emerging from the ground and branching outward.

The artwork is decorated with Kusama’s signature polka dot patterns and made from staffed fabric.

‘Death Nerves’ is a monumental artwork from 2022. It was originally commissioned by M+ museum, Hong Kong to be featured as part of their exhibition in 2022, entitled: ‘Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now’.

The 15-metre (49ft) long installation consists of a series of multi-coloured staffed and sewn fabric elements hanging from the ceiling of the upper gallery all the way down to reach the floor on the ground floor.

The artwork is reminiscent of a forest of multicoloured tendrils, vines or nervous system. Despite of its title, the installation emphasises the cycle of regeneration and the interconnectedness of life and death.

Every Day I Pray for Love – Paintings

‘Every Day I Pray for Love’ is the title of Yayoi Kusama’s painting series consisting of a number of artworks she has created over the years.

This exhibition is featuring many of the artist’s most recent works. Kusama uses bold colours and embeds eyes and faces into her paintings along with hand-written messages in English and Japanese.

Each painting creates an extraordinary microscopic and macroscopic universe at the same time.

As she guides you through the backstreets of Southwark along River Themes, she will tell you long-forgotten stories of women who once haunted those streets (either as a living or a spirit).

If you listen closely, you can still hear their voices echoing on the brick walls of the surrounding buildings and on the wet stones of the pavement underneath your feet.

Delve deep into the dark history of the capital and listen to – sometimes cheeky and juicy – stories of forgotten women who once lived in the area and have shaped London’s history.

Along your journey, you will meet a Pagan Goddess who inspired orgies, a very unfortunate nun, supernatural entities and spirits that cursed men.

You will also meet the mysterious Rat Queen who once lived in the sewer drainage and the ‘Winchester Goose’ who seduced men (you’re safe ladies, don’t worry. Phiew!)

You will learn about a cemetery near London Bridge Station where hundreds of sex workers were buried, and it was discovered by TFL during the construction of Jubilee Line in the 1990s.

Queer Britain Museum

After five years of search for a suitable site, Queer Britain finally opened the UK’s first brick and mortar LGBTQ+ museum at Granary Square next to King’s Cross Station. In their opening year (2022), they welcomed over 50,000 visitors and they also won the Museum Association’s Best Small Museum Project of the year award in the same year.

Former editor of Gay Times, Joseph Galliano came up with the idea of an LGBTQ+ museum when he visited Queer British Art exhibition at Tate Britain in 2017. He then used his extensive connections with LGBTQ+ organizations, queer activists and artists and successfully built relationships with the most significant museums, such as the Tate and M&C Saatchi to make the dream come true.

Queer Museum opened on 5^th May in 2022 and the venue is being leased by national arts charity, Art Funds.

Their award-winning exhibition, “We Are Queer Britain!”, which opened to mark the 50^th anniversary of the UK’s first Pride March, is still there along with artifacts, photos and images, costumes worn by celebrities and much more to cover over 100 years of queer history.

The museum houses a number of exhibition rooms, a film room and a shop with an amazing collection of books, gifts, stationary and more.

Hand-Written Letter by Elton John

“You are “queer” … Be proud of who you are, and as you get older and wiser, fight for gay rights…in certain countries we are still not treated as equals…Stand up for every human being’s rights. Be loving, kind and strong…You are going to have a hell of a life!!”

Elton John wrote this heart-warming letter in 2009 to his 16-year-old self. In the letter he encourages his younger self to have fun and enjoy his sexuality and never chase love, it will find him when he least expects it.

Clause 28 of the Local Government act was first proposed in 1987. The act banned the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality by local authorities. The act was followed by protests all over the UK. On 20^th February 1988 actors Ian McKellen and Michael Cashman joined the Manchester march to protest against Clause 28.

We Are Queer Britain! Hexagon Wall

The exhibition begins with a magnetic wall where anyone can add their personal message. Simply take a hexagonal magnet and tell the world why it is important for LGBTQ+ people to be seen. Feel free to use as much colours as you want and decorate your magnet as you like. Once you’re ready, simply place your hexagon onto the wall.

Well-known singer and actor, Olly Alexander worn this rainbow cape at Glastonbury in 2016. He said: “Say ‘no thank you fear’…literally shove a rainbow in fear’s face…Sometimes I’m afraid but I’m never ashamed..I am proud of who I am.”

1980s Singer and LGBTQ+ Advocate, Hazell Dean’s Jacket

Hazell Dean was known as Queen of Hi-NRG in gay discos in the 1980s. She was a singer and an LGBTQ+ advocate who wore this jacket for the cover of the 1984 UK top-ten hit, Searchin’.

There is a mini library within the museum, offering books anyone can read on the spot. The books were hand-picked by the Queer Museum’s staff and by Gay’s The World, the UK’s oldest LGBT bookshop.

Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a 360-degree experience made with a cutting-edge technology in a 20,000 square feet space with light and sound to get you closer to the painter and his most famous masterpieces than ever before.

Interesting Facts

The first room showcases Van Gogh’s most famous artworks and gives us fascinating information about the painter we never heard before.

Did you know for instance, that Van Gogh was likely unable to recognise the colours as normal people can? Research revealed that Van Gogh was likely using bright colours because his eyes were unable to distinguish the different hues of a colour that are close together.

The next room shows how Van Gogh’s paintings would look like if we had a chance to step into them. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions there is no chance for visitors to really step inside ‘The Bedroom’ painting and snap a photo. Still spectacular, though.

Immerse More with VR

For an extra £5 you can immerse more into the unique universe of the painter. A 10-minutes Virtual Reality experience guides you through the life of Vincent Van Gogh and his world-famous paintings, including ‘The Bedroom’ and ‘Starry Night’.

All Ages Welcome

Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience welcomes all ages. Kids (and adults of course) can create their own masterpieces by choosing a template provided and colour the image of their own artistic taste.

Once you’re ready, scan the QR code on the corner of the paper (do not colour and damage the QR code, otherwise you won’t be able to scan it) by sliding your finished work under the lamp and camera provided, push the big red button, and watch your masterpiece appearing on the big screen.

The Immersive Experience

Finally, visitors arrive in the immersive room which is a 20,000 square foot room filled with 360-degree light and sound effects. Sit on one of the sun beds or enjoy the show in style by sitting on a wooden bench.

2021 is definitely the year of Van Gogh in London. There are two mind-blowing immersive experiences running parallelly in the capital, Van Gogh Alive and Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience.

Some of you, who have visited or are planning to visit those exhibitions might want to know a bit more about the painter, his life, and career.

Did you that he lived in London for a short period of time and became deeply inspired by English art and literature?

Van Gogh House

The young Vincent van Gogh arrived in London in 1873. He lived in several houses in all around the capital before settling down at 87 Hackford Road, Stockwell, and continued living there for a whole year. This was his very first time to live and work in a foreign country.

Van Gogh House was opened in the Summer of 2019, after being purchased by James Wang and Alice Childs at an auction in 2012. Seeing the cultural potential in the house, the new owners started a 7-year conservation work. They wanted to preserve as much existing materials as possible. Thanks to that, visitors can walk on the original floor today – that’s why high-heels are not permitted in the house.

The main vision was not just opening a museum to Vincent van Gogh’s time here, but an inspiring and productive space to support contemporary artists, hold exhibitions, and events. – says Alice Childs.

Van Gogh House will launch their first exhibition in September:

‘Life and Its Most Trivial Particulars’.

Fun Fact: It was a van Gogh enthusiast postman who actually found out that this was the house where the painter lived.

During the renovation process lots of original objects and documents were found in the house, such as a handmade wooden camera, a Census from 1871, the house’s original insurance documents, and even a prayer book that had been printed by the company van Gogh was working for at that time in London.

Van Gogh House offers guided tours to visitors during which you can learn more about the house’s most famous tenant, the house’s architecture, and history and even a short walk nearby to set the local context.

Van Gogh Walking Tour is an extensive tour (3.5 miles) brings visitors back in the early 1870s by visiting Victoria Embarkment, crossing River Themes on the Westminster Bridge – van Gogh once sketched the bridge on a notepaper.

Fun Fact: The distance between 87 Hackford Road and Covent Garden, where van Gogh worked at that time, is 3.5 miles. Van Gogh alleged that he walked the distance within 45 minutes.

Van Gogh loved his time in London. He walked to his office to Coven Garden whenever he could, while exploring the city. He visited many of the parks and cultural spots by foot, including Hyde Park, V&A Museum, The National Gallery, – where some of his paintings are exhibited today – British Museum, and Royal Academy of Arts.

Interesting Fact: Van Gogh signed National Gallery’s visitor book on his visit. The visitor book was exhibited in Tate in 2019 and in Dulwich Gallery this year.

Despite of the short period of time Van Gogh lived in London, he developed a great appreciation for English art and literature. Charles Dickens, for example had great influence on van Gogh. As a result, he started showing interest in the daily life of the city’s lower class. That influenced him much later in his career as a painter.

Café Van Gogh is a just a stone-throw away from Van Gogh House. The café is beautiful and really gives what it promises. Head upstairs and you will find yourself inside a Van Gogh painting.

Scott’s Mayfair Restaurant

Taking inspiration from Vincent van Gogh, Scott’s Mayfair Restaurant transformed their outside seating area into a sunflower garden. An oversized sunflower installation welcomes the restaurant’s guests in full bloom and bursting colours. Sunflowers are symbol of re-birth and resilience.

The restaurant showcases a new limited-edition sunflower-themed dessert arriving on a painter’s palette tableside and a gin cocktail mixed from ‘edible paint’ for their guests until the end of September.

Van Gogh Afternoon Tea – Hotel Café Royal

In partnership with Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, Hotel Café Royal launched their Van Gogh Afternoon Tea in July.

Their promise is to take their guests in a historical magical journey to taste Van Gogh’s most famous artworks, such as his self-portrait, sunflowers, and even his paintbrush.
